‘10 ways to discourage your husband in ministry’ was one of the most profoundly discouraging articles I have read in my 17 years of being a ‘ministry wife’. At first, I wondered if I’d lost my sense of humour. But I found many others were equally discouraged.
To view committing adultery and falling away solely in the context of ‘his ministry’ is seriously skewed. Faithfulness in marriage and to God are much more important than anyone’s ministry job. The article returns women to the realms of keeping the house spick and span, catering for their husband’s every whim, and being a sex slave while he gets down to the ‘real work’ of ministry.
Irony is a tricky genre, and, unfortunately, the article missed the mark.
