It’s nearly Christmas!

It must be nearly Christmas time. How can I tell? My letterbox is overflowing—not with cards from friends, but with colorful invitations to spend my money at a myriad of local retailers. Fortunately, it’s not just for the local Westfield’s; I can spend my money on some worthwhile Christian material too. So just humour me for a minute, and answer the following question: which of the following products didn’t appear in the latest Christian catalogue I received?

Option 1: Guitar Praise

Join the guitar game revolution! This CD-Rom kit lets you play along with your fave Christian bands. Simply install the game on your computer, plug in the wireless adapter, turn on the guitar, and you’re ready to rock! Includes USB guitar controller.

Option 2: Dance Praise

Turn your computer into a dance machine! The CD-Rom and interactive dance pad combine to bring you over 400 different dance sequences, all in sync with tracks from today’s top Christian artists!

Expansion pack 1 Modern Worship
Expansion pack 2 Hip-hop/Rap
Expansion pack 3 Pop & Rock Hits
Expansion pack 4 God Rocks
Expansion pack 5 Praise & Worship
Expansion pack 6 Contemporary Hits

Option 3: The Maxwell Leadership Bible Revised & Updated

This spiritual powerhouse integrates God’s life-giving word with the management wisdom of John C Maxwell. The new edition includes material published by Maxwell since 2002, including The 360 Leader and 25 Ways to Win With People.

For $20 extra, you can get the coffee bonded leather bound one!

The answer: Unfortunately, it was a trick question: they all appeared in the catalogue. I didn’t get to make up a single one! I am not sure whether to laugh or cry. I’m sure if I just dance around with my guitar, singing wisdom from John C Maxwell, God will sort it all out!

  1. You know the really scary thing? In Australia we don’t tend to get the very worst excesses of “Christian retail” from North America. See my 2006 CHN post reflecting on the International Christian Retail Show in Denver of that year.
